Church Point- A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held for Freddie J. Hanks, 90, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel-Church Point with Rev. Godwin Nzeh officiating. Visitation will begin in the Duhon Funeral Home- Church Point Chapel on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM, until 10:00 PM and will resume on Wednesday at 8:00 AM until just prior to the time of service. Interment will follow the chapel service and will be in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in Mire, LA. Mr. Hanks passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at his residence in Church Point, LA.
Freddie was a Veteran of World War II, honorably serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and was awarded the Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon (1 star)and the Philippine Liberation Medal for his service. He received an award from CFMA on March 29, 2014 for his contributions to Cajun Music; was a member of the Cajun Ramblers Band and also received numerous Certificates of Appreciation for his contributions in the French Music Heritage. He was “the best” Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great-Great Grandfather and friend to many and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Hanks is survived by his children, Lena Marie Hanks of Opelousas, LA, Gail H. Briley of Grand Praire, LA, Elaine H. Tweedel of Lewisburg, LA, Jill H. Barnett and her husband, Duke of Lawtell, LA, Diane H. Tweedel and her husband, James of Lewisburg, LA, Connie H. Mark and her husband, Paul of Lehighton, PA; twelve grandchildren; thirty four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by wife, Lezie Mae LeBlanc Hanks; son, Gervais Joseph Hanks; grandchildren, Michael Kyle Briley, Riki Marie Tweedel, Jerry Joseph Hanks and Jerid Patrick Hanks; parents, Cyril and Elizabeth Hanks; brothers, Gervais J. Hanks and Freeman J. Hanks; sister, Girlis Marie Dupuis.
