Obituary for Leo Lavergne

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Chapel in Lewisburg for Leo Lavergne, 59, who passed away at his home in Church Point on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 9:35 A.M.
Père Rozas, Associate Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart will be officiating for the services. Burial will be in the St. John’s Chapel Cemetery in Lewisburg.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 4:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. A Rosary will be recited by the Coursillo Group at 7 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 8:00 A.M. until time of services.
Mr. Leo reaffirmed his faith and commitment to God and to the Catholic Church on July 17-20, 1997 by completing the Cursillo Weekend. He sat at St. Paul’s table during Cursillo #343. For 21 consecutive years, he supported new Cursillo Candidates and the Cursillo Movement by walking each year with a group of men from Lake Charles to Prairie Ronde.
Survivors include his wife, Mary R. Lavergne of Church Point; four step daughters; five sisters, Ethel and husband, Darold Thibodeaux of Opelousas, Rose Gros of Fordoche, Mildred and husband, Lee Louviere of TX, Theresa Lavergne of Opelousas and Verna and husband, Andrew Andrus of Biloxi, MS; three brothers, Ray and wife, Anna Lavergne of Ville Platte, Paul and wife, Brenda Lavergne of Prairie Ronde, Eugene and wife Sybil Lavergne of Sunset; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lavergne was preceded in death by one step son, Larry James Andrus, Jr.; his parents, Rivers and Verna Lavergne; one sister, Ella Mae Lavergne; one brother, Ronald Lavergne; two brother-in-laws, Martin “Butch” Gros and Elvee Thomassee; one sister-in-law, Sue Lavergne.
Pallbearers for the service will be Heath Lavergne, Kenny Godeaux, Larry Guidroz, Ben Andrus, Dalton Stelly, Ted Gros, BJ Lavergne and Bill Stelly, Jr.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to all involved with Heart of Hospice of Acadiana for providing Leo with such incredible compassionate care during his final days. May God bless you all!
