Obituary for John Douglas ""Poppa"" Villejoin

John Douglas ""Poppa"" Villejoin
CROWLEY – A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated for John Douglas Villejoin, 71, at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel-Crowley, with Rev. Matthew Higginbotham as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at Duhon Funeral Home-Crowley Chapel on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00PM and will resume on Tuesday at 8:00 AM until just prior to the service time. Interment will follow the chapel service and will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley, LA. Mr. Villejoin died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at Acadia General Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016.

Known to everyone as “Poppa,” he was a person who simply enjoyed life. He played softball, he coached boxing and he served his country in the United States Army for six years.
“Poppa” loved to fish and hunt. His granddaughter, Bailee Rae, was his world. He loved helping people and donating to those in need. Not a day went by that he wasn’t working in his garden. He loved the Lord and he loved to read. He was a part of the agricultural community in Vermilion Parish, having worked as a rice and soybean farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Etta Gautreaux Villejoin of Crowley; his two children, Laurie Anne Villejoin of Crowley and Shawn David Villejoin (Kimberly) of Crowley; and one granddaughter, Bailee Rae Villejoin of Crowley.

He was preceded in death by his father Odea Villejoin and his mother, Solange Lognon Villejoin; two brothers, Alton Villejoin and Nelson Villejoin; and a sister, Dorothy Mae Villejoin Monte
Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Benoit, Issac Fils, Shawn Villejoin, Laurie Villejoin, Mikal Hebert and John Breaux. Bailee Villejoin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The Villejoin family would like to express sincere thanks to the Acadian Ambulance paramedics, the staff at Acadia General Hospital and Duhon Funeral Home for the care they provided during his final day.
