A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point for Russell Handy, 65, who passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 8:48 A.M. at his home in Church Point.
Rev. Emmanuel Awe, SSJ, Pastor of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in the Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church New Cemetery in Church Point.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. Visitation will resume on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 8:00 A.M. until time of services at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point.
Survivors include three daughters, Shanna Antil Duhon of Lafayette, Beverlyna Nicole Handy of Church Point and Raeven Evelina Handy of Baton Rouge; one son, Lawrence Alonzo Thomas, Jr. (Damitra) of Sunset; three sisters, Elizabeth Williams (Edward) of Opelousas, Gloria Handy of Rayne and M. Lynn Charlot (Ray) of Church Point; four brothers, Jessie Handy of Lafayette, J. R. Handy, (Pauline) of Church Point, Paul Handy of Church Point, and Donnie Handy (Carol) Broken Arrow, OK; two grandson, Saige Micah Duhon and Kopeland VonRussell Lewis; one Aunt, Lorita Hawkins of Church Point; one Godson, Ryan Charlot (Katina) of Abbeville; special friends, Gerald and wife, Audreta Broussard, Ronald Broussard, Urban Bienvenu, Sr. ; a special cousin, (like a brother), Henry Hawkins of Lake Charles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Handy was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Virgie Handy of Church Point; three sisters, Elsie Mae, Beverlyna and Evelyna Handy; six brothers, Andrew, Anthony, Albert, Peter, Michael, and Ronnie Handy.
