Obituary for James Carl Bivens

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point for James Carl Bivens, 65, who passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 10:42 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Br. John Nugent will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church New Cemetery in Church Point.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 6 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Friday at 8:00 A.M. until time of services.
Survivors include his wife of fifteen years, Emily D. Bivens of Rayne; three daughters, Summer and husband, Manuel Steele of San Bernardino, CA, Amber and husband, Eddie Shumpert of Mire, Carly Bivens of Rayne; two sons, Sam Cormier and companion, Melissa Cody of Hessmer, Tim and wife, Karlie Cormier of Scott; two sisters, Sheila Fortner of Union City, Tenn. and Brenda and husband, Steve Jobe of Lavergne, Tenn.; two brothers, Mike and wife, Evelyn McCoy of Trenton, Tenn. , Gene Hawks of South Fulton, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Madison, Nickolas, Jayden, Autumn, A.J., David, Liza, Blayke, and Karter; one Godchild, Lani Romero of Rayne.
Mr. Bivens was preceded in death by his mom, Annie Hicks, and the mother of his oldest daughters, Lynn Bivens.
Pallbearers for the service will be, Sam Cormier, Nickolas Shumpert, Tim Cormier, Josh Johnson, Kenny Johnson, and Chris Johnson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Jayden Shumpert.
