Obituary for Raleigh Robert "Pineapple" Gilbert Jr.
Rayne- Funeral Services will be held for Raleigh "Pineapple" R. Gilbert, Jr., 74, on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Duhon Funeral Home-Rayne Chapel with Deacon Denis LaCroix officiating. Visitation will begin in the Duhon Funeral Home-Rayne Chapel on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 PM and will resume on Saturday at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. Interment will follow the chapel service and will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Scott, LA. Mr. Gilbert passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
Mr. Gilbert was born on March 7, 1945 in Hilo, Hawaii and moved to Rayne, LA at the age of 9 in 1954 and was welcomed and loved by the Comeaux’s and the Gilbert’s. He joined the U.S. Army in 1963, served a tour in Vietnam; was discharged in 1966 and shortly after met the “love of his life”, Barbara Alleman whom he married December 17, 1966. Together they had two beautiful children, Tracy Gilbert Meche and her husband, Jody and Mark Gilbert; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Marcy Ledig. He began his employment with Magnolia/Republic Liquor in 1967 and retired with 43 years service in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents , Raleigh R. Gilbert, Sr. and Kaname “Nora” Nakamure Gilbert. His father-in-law, Lovic Alleman and mother-in-law Marie Alleman.
Pallbearers will be Chris Guilbeaux, Jody Meche, Mike McWilliams, Brennen Meche , Shawn Ledig and Mark Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers will be Laila Gilbert and Katie Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Chris Guilbeaux and David Foote for being there for Mr. Gilbert as well as big thanks to The Heart Hospital in Lafayette, LA and Cornerstone in Lake Charles, LA.
