Obituary for Eleanor Abshire (Cormier)
Crowley- A Gathering of Remembrance with family and friends will be held for Eleanor Theresa Abshire, 79, on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Duhon Funeral Home=Crowley Chapel from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 1:00 PM followed by the Pastor Prayer beginning at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Interment will be at a later date.
Momma Ellie crossed over at 5:56 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 peacefully at her home in Kaplan, LA.
Eleanor is survived by one sister, Ethelene Cormier Benoit of Morse, LA; two surviving children, Sheryl Ann (Sho Sho) Abshire Myers of Crowley, LA and Jed James (Bubba) Abshire, Jr of Kaplan, LA. Momma Ellie (NANA) is also survived by her grand children, great- grandchildren and a great- great grandchild “on the way”. She was also known to many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her late husband and the father of her children, Jed J. Abshire, Sr., one son, (Her Baby, Her Heart) , Ronan Keith Abshire; her parents, Clarence Joseph Cormier and Ethel Ann Pierce Cormier; two brothers, Matthew Cormier and Norris Cormier; one sister, Rowena Cormier and her Grandest Angel and Godchild, Roxy Cormier.
Momma Ellie left a piece of her heart to everyone blessed to meet her. She loved good Cajun food, Classic Country Music, namely, George (Opossum) Jones, Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty; and Momma especially loved playing poker and casino machines. She was a poker machine Whisperer because they always seemed to pay her bountifully.
Eternal gratitude to all that prayed for Momma in her time of need and her hours of crossover; PEACE.
