Obituary for Eva "Suzie" Charles
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne for Eva “Suzie” G. Charles, 70, who passed away at her home in Rayne on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 7:58 A.M.
Rev. Emmanuel Awe, SSJ, Pastor of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Church New Cemetery in the Mausoleum in Rayne.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 8:30 A.M. until time of services. Visitation will be held in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne.
Suzie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a home maker and a care taker of many loved ones, her grandchildren, nephews and great nephews whom she loved dearly. Suzie was a kind and generous person, but she meant business. She made everyone who stopped by feel welcomed and loved. Her favorite past time was cooking and baking, there was rarely ever a time you came up the driveway and didn’t smell a wonderful aroma coming from her kitchen window. Suzie was not only a mother to her own children but she also became the neighborhood mother to many children she helped rear along the way.
Survivors include her husband of forty four years, Ezzie Charles, Sr. of Rayne; one daughter, Shayla Charles of Rayne; one step daughter, Khensa Charles of Rayne; one son, LaDeria Charles of Rayne; one step son, Ezzie Charles, Jr. of Baton Rouge; five sisters, Evelyn “Joyce” and husband, Henry Roy of Beaumont, TX, Aquator and husband, Ben Sullivan of Richmond, CA, Myrtle and husband, Melvin Carter of Martinez, CA, Kathy Gibson, Martinez, CA and Charlene Martin of Rayne; three brothers, Carl and wife, Bridget Gibson of Rayne, Larry and wife Carol Gibson of Houston, TX, and Don Gibson of Martinez, CA; nine grandchildren, Dredon Milstead, Andreaus Conley, Adrien Conley, Elijah Charles, Alex Rochon, Jaquan Senegal, Rufus Senegal, Jr., Da’Moriyah Senegal and Khendal Cole; one great-grandson, Blair Rochon.
Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Viola Y. Gibson; her grandparents, Edward and Ophelia Young; one sister, Marie Augustine; four brothers, Wilbert Gibson, Wilfred Gibson, (Rita), Anthony “BeBe” Gibson, Sr. (Irene), and Gerald Gibson (Vernal); one sister-in-law, Beth Gibson; two daughter-in-laws, Trymica Charles and Tabitha Milstead.
