Obituary for Juanita Young (Turner)

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 11:30 A. M. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Richard for Juanita Turner Young, 96.
Juanita Turner Young went home to Jesus the evening of January 30, 2021. She passed away peacefully in her home in Eunice, LA, with her family and caregivers by her side.
Pastor Travis Turner will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Richard.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 9:00 A.M. until time of services all at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Richard.
She was born to Virginia and James Turner on August 28, 1924 in Branch, LA and has resided in the same area her whole life. She attended Richard Elementary School, where years later she worked as the school secretary. She graduated from Church Point High School in 1942.
Juanita married Seth Quentin Young on May 16, 1947. They had one daughter, Johnnie Ruth.
She is survived by her daughter, Johnnie Ruth Thompson, and son-in-law, Gary William Thompson of Cypress, TX; one grandson, William Seth Thompson and his wife, Dana of Austin, TX; one great-grandson, William Remy Thompson, also of Austin, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she joins in heaven her loving husband, Seth Quentin Young and her nine siblings: brothers, Everette “Son”, Hillman, Archie, Layne, and Marshall Turner; sisters, Mildred Volentine, Gladys Chaddick, Helen Davis, and Beatrice DeGregory.
In addition to being a dedicated Christian, loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Juanita also loved being actively involved in her church work and was an extraordinary seamstress, gardener and cook. Her pumpkin pie was widely reported to be the best in the world.
She also volunteered in many various school and community activities, such as PTO President and Acadia Parish Home Demonstration Council President in 1967.
Her greatest passion was spending time with her grandson, William. She enjoyed playing with him in his tree house, collecting live green frogs, and attending all of his activities from Cub Scout banquets to high school band functions to his beautiful wedding to Dana.
She loved family gatherings at her home, especially at Easter and also with her Church group “The Joyful Pilgrims” once a month to share a meal together and enjoy sweet Christian fellowship. As many would say, she was an extraordinary hostess. Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Another passion was her love of travel. Her trips encompassed visits to many Countries on all Seven Continents. She also planned a U.S. trip every year for a group of family and friends, renting a twelve passenger van in which she was the only driver. Over the years, they visited almost every state in the Union and even went into Canada.
Donations can be made in her memory to Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church or Acadia Baptist Center if desired.
The family would like to thank all of her awesome caregivers who cared for her with such dedication and loving compassionate hearts, as well as all of her wonderful family and friends who loved her. She will be sorely missed by all.
