Obituary for John Rufus "Rock, Pa T" Thibodeaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for John Rufus “Rock Pa -T” Thibodeaux, 86, who passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11:45 P.M. at his home in Church Point.
Fr. Patrick Broussard, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church New Cemetery in Church Point.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 7 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 8:00 A.M. until time of services.
Survivors include his wife of sixty four years, Velma R. Thibodeaux of Church Point; four daughters, Debra T. Breaux of Breaux Bridge, Tammy T. and husband, Jamie Lavergne of Opelousas, Phyllis T. and husband, Bryce Latiolais of Church Point, Elizabeth T. and husband, Steven Wescott of Youngsville; one son, John Dale and wife, Shelia Smith Thibodeaux of Church Point; fourteen grandchildren, Jared Breaux, Candice Daigle, John Travis Thibodeaux, Philip Thibodeaux, Chad Thibodeaux, Mariah Thibodeaux, Brittany Wagley, Dylan Lavergne, Brooke Olivier, Brody Olivier, Jade Leger, Tristan Wescott, Makayla Wescott; two step grandchildren, Joey Lavergne and Samuel Latiolais; fifteen great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Thibodeaux was born and raised in Lewisburg, LA. He was a man that wore many hats to support his family. He farmed; he worked in the Oil Field as a Crane Operator and a Motorman. He became disabled but still found a way to support his family with odd jobs, like carpentry and crawfishing. He showed all of us how to work hard and to appreciate what you have. Most of all he showed us Love.
He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 21 on January 27, 1955. He entered the military at the rank of PVT-1. He attended basic training and advanced basic training with the 101st Airborne Division Artillery at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, earning his position as Heavy Weapons Infantry man. Upon completion of training he deployed to Germany with CO H 60th Inf Regt APO 176. He fulfilled his duties there assisting in guarding the German and Russian Boarders. He was honorably discharged on November 23, 1956 with Rank of SP3 (T). He was an American Legion Post Commander for one year at the American Legion Post 405 in Branch. He was a member for sixty years at the American Legion Post 225 in Church Point and a life time member of the National Rifle Association.
