Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point, LA for Elmae Benoit Dugas, 96, who died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Cornerstone at the Ranch.
Fr. Patrick Broussard will conduct the funeral services. Visitation may be observed on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. and the burial will be in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Mrs. Dugas was born February 4, 1925 in Sunset, LA to the late Jean and Anna Louise Cropper Benoit. She worked in the retail sales field for many years and retired from LARC in Lafayette. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and yard and was a talented seamstress who loved sewing for her daughter and grandchildren. As a member of Acadiana Special Volunteers of Opelousas, she provided help for many Special Olympics events. She loved cooking for family at the holidays and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ann Dugas of Lafayette, LA and one son, Caffery James Dugas, II and his wife Mary of Lafayette, LA; 3 grandchildren, Maureen Leigh Dugas-Foster and her husband Michael, Caffery James Dugas, III and Molli Lynn-Marie Dugas Meaux and her husband Christopher all of Lafayette, LA; 8 great grandchildren, Aidan James Foster, Desmond Garcia Foster, Wallace Benoit Foster, Clayton Caffery Meaux, Evelyn Frances Meaux, Margaret Delores Meaux, Sophia Leigh Meaux and Rose Marie Meaux; 2 brothers, James Herschel Benoit and his wife Judy of Church Point, LA and Francis Kelly Benoit of Scott, LA and 2 sisters, Marie Eldine Benoit Lantier of Duson, LA and Lucy Benoit Whitley of Opelousas, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Caffery J. Dugas; 5 brothers, Jacque “Jake” Benoit, John Cleve Benoit, John Ellis Benoit, Paul Eldon “Black” Benoit and Joseph Leland “Bob” Benoit and one sister, Marie Genevieve Benoit Leger.
Pallbearers will be Caffery J. Dugas, II, Michael J. Foster, Aidan J. Foster, Desmond G. Foster, Christopher L. Meaux and Clayton C. Meaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Caffery J. Dugas, III, Francis K. Benoit, Randy Cormier and Wallace B. Foster.
The family would like to give special thanks to Cornerstone at the Ranch staff, especially Kelley, Loumis, Angela and Jasmine. Also to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospice Staff, Our Lady of Lourdes Palliative Care, Dr. Darrin Menard and Staff and Senior Helpers staff, especially Linda Lightfoot.
