Obituary for Thelma Lejeune Istre
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church of Estherwood, LA for Thelma Lejeune Istre, 87, who died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Lafayette, LA.
Fr. Randall P. Moreau will celebrate the Mass and the burial will follow in the Estherwood Cemetery. Visitation may be observed from 9:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday and the Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Istre was born December 3, 1933 to the late Eldridge and Alix Myers Lejeune. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She was a member of the Pink Ladies for many years at the Acadia General Hospital. She enjoyed gardening and going to the French dances with her husband and friends. She was professional seamstress and made wedding dresses for her daughter and grandchildren. She made baby clothes and Mardi Gras costumes that were sold in retail stores.
She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Ann Thibodeaux and her husband Joseph of Lafayette; 4 sons, Joseph Daniel Istre and his wife, Linda of Egan, LA, John Albert Istre of Egan, Oneal Istre, III of Egan, LA and James Eldridge Istre and his wife Rachal of Egan; 12 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; 1 sister Leora Amy of Crowley, LA and 1 brother Gene Lejeune and his wife Reve of Kokomo, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Oneal Istre II; 2 brothers, Harold Lejeune and EJ Lejeune; 2 sisters, Mary Clement and Leona Blanchard; 2 grandsons Joseph C. Thibodeaux III and John Philip Istre; 1 granddaughter, Casey Istre and 1 daughter-in-law Lindy Istre.
