Obituary for Larry Edward Delano

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Larry Edward Delano, 85 who passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 1:35 P.M. at his home surrounded by his girls.
Père David Rozas, Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church New Cemetery in Church Point.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home in Church Point. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 6 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Friday at 8:00 A.M. until time of services.
Survivors include four daughters, Merila and husband, Ricky Ingram of Church Point, Paula and husband, “Doo” Higginbotham of Opelousas, Jennifer and husband, Michael Kennerson of Church Point, and Kerrie Martin of Church Point; one sister, Sharon Goff of Graettinger, IA; two brothers, Lyle and wife, Barbara Delano of CA, Dale and wife, Dianne Delano, WI; five grandchildren, Jessica Ingram, Heidy Ramirez, Brian Lopez, Zeb and Ramsy Kennerson; his four legged side kick, Sandy.
Mr. Larry was born and raised in rural Rusk County, in the small town of Weyerhauser, Wisconsin. He was the fourth son of Marvin and Priscilla Delano. Known as the toughest tackler in the county upon completing high school and unbeknown to be a recipient of a college football scholarship he enlisted in the US Air Force. During his time in the Air Force he traveled the world. While stationed at England Air Force Base, he visited the small southern LA town, of Church Point with buddies. There he met his first bride and mother of his children, Earline Castille Delano. He worked hard providing for his family. He completed electrical schooling, worked in the oilfield of the Gulf of Mexico and did electrical work on his days off.
He loved vacations back home to Wisconsin where he made many sweet memories. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and building thing from wood.
After the passing of Earline he married Cecilia Higginbotham Delano until her passing in 2015. He was brave, strong, stubborn, a provider, a teacher, a farmer, a gardener, a jack of all trades, and adventurer, a son, a brother, a husband, a father and a child of God. He will be greatly missed by his family but welcomed home by those who have gone before him.
Mr. Delano was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Earline Castille Delano; his second wife, Cecilia Higginbotham Delano; one son, James Brian Delano; one son-in-law, Shawn Martin; his parents, Marvin and Priscilla Delano; two brothers, Jay Delano and Orville Delano; one brother-in-law, Fred Goff; two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Deda Delano.
The family would like to thank these health care professionals who helped in the end; St. Joseph Hospice of Lafayette, especially Ms. Jackie Kyzar, Ms. Charlene Guidry, and Senior Helpers especially Ms. Christine Goodwin and Ms. Ta’Keisha Lewis.
