David Wessley Steele, Jr.
Mermentau, LA – A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for David Wessley
Steele, Jr., 67, at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 7, 2022. The service will be held at St. John
the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau, LA.
Interment will be in the Istre Cemetery, Mermentau Cove, LA.
Father Randall Moreau, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will be the celebrant of
the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Mr. Steele died Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Acadia General Hospital in Crowley, LA.
David “DW” was a native of Ferriday, LA. He lived his adult life in Mermentau Cove as an owner operator for D.W. Trucking, L.L.C. He passed his time in so many ways. He was an avid reader
and sports fan. Olla was the place to find him for hunting season. Fishing with his
buddies was always a good time. In his earlier days at few hours in the air flying a
Cessna was popular. Taking his Harley for a spin with his favorite person made for
some great memories. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and
especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patricia Istre Steele, one daughter Cheryl Steele Faulk and her husband, Chester, two sons, Chad Steele and Codie Steele and his wife, Meagan, nine
grandchildren, two sisters, Delores Wynn and her husband John Paul and Linda Frasier, one brother, Channing Steele.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dorasteen S. Steele and David
Wessley Steele, Sr. His grandparents, maternal, Grady and Thelma W. Smith
and paternal, Jared and Clara B. Steele. Also preceded in death by his mother and
father-in-law, Merlyn and Emely L. Istre.
Pallbearers will be Channing Steele, Ellis W. Cart, II, Ethan Cart, Grady Faulk, Tommy
Carlson, and Wayne Steele. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Steele, Chester Faulk,
Codie Steele and Ellis Cart.
A rosary will be prayed Monday at 6:00 pm in Duhon Funeral Home in Crowley, LA.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Duhon Funeral Home in Crowley, LA on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 2pm to 9pm. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 8 am until time of services.
