Obituary for Nettie Leona Perry

On July 7, 1925, a five-pound baby girl was born to Rufus and Tena Faulk. The doctor tried many things to get this baby to breathe, but after everything else failed, he dipped her in a pan of cold water. This was the beginning of her life in the Ebenezer Community.

She went to Crowley High School and then worked in Crowley after graduation. She met her husband-to-be a Marine, Richard Trahan. They were married on October 20, 1944 and had a long life together, just six months short of 50 years! They lived in Crowley for a while and eventually moved to Abbeville, LA. To this union were born two sons eight years apart: Richard Dale and Randy. Nettie started working as a sales person and was employed in that capacity for 20 plus years.

Richard and Nettie loved to travel and visited or went through about 42 of the 50 United States, as well as Mexico and Canada. In later years, their grand children came along as well and they had some really good times together and seeing different sights.
After the death of her first husband Richard, Nettie was blessed with another chance at love. She married George Wilbur Perry on May 27, 1995 and they shared seventeen years of life together.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ebenezer Nazarene Church honoring the life of Nettie Trahan Perry, who went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 4:15 P.M. at Camelot of Broussard in Broussard. She will be laid to rest at the Ebenezer Community Cemetery. Pastor Barry Stephens, Pastor of the Ebenezer Nazarene Church will be officiating for the services.

The family has requested the visitation to be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Visitation will resume on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 9:00 A.M. until time of services at the Ebenezer Nazarene Church in Ebenezer.

Nettie was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a life-long member of the Nazarene Church and in that capacity started the Ebenezer Community 60’s + fellowship group who enjoyed a potluck meal and fellowship on a monthly basis for ten years. Nettie loved Southern Gospel Music and enjoyed it whether it was live or on CD. Many happy memories of her life were accompanied by this type of music.

Nettie Trahan Perry is survived by her two sons: Richard Dale and wife, Glenda Trahan of Maurice, Randy Keith and wife, Debbie Trahan of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Richard Dale Trahan, Jr. and wife, Stephanie of Indian Bayou, Christina and husband, Charles Vaughn of Iowa, Neil Trahan of Lafayette and Catrina and husband, Paul Guidry of Milton; six great-grandchildren, Timothy, Nicholas, Claire Marie Trahan, Emma Marie Vaughn and Hunter and Hailey Guidry; three stepsons: Larry Dale and wife, Shirley Perry, Ron and wife, Debra Perry, Ned Keith and wife, Debbie Perry: one step daughter-in-law, Sherrilyn Perry; one brother, William “Bill” Faulk; one sister: Barbara Truax; two nieces and two nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.

Nettie was high on the mountain and down in the valley, but one thing she always knew-Jesus was always with her.

Nettie was preceded in death by: her parents, Rufus and Tena Faulk: first husband, Lawrence Richard Trahan; second husband, George Wilbur Perry; daughter-in-law, Marilyn B. Trahan; one grandson, Christopher Dale Trahan, infant grand-daughter, and a step grandson, Brian Perry; one step son, Dwight Perry.

Favorite nieces and nephews who called Nettie their “favorite Aunt” on the Trahan side: The Villejoins, Comeaux, Irvings, Istre, and Richards: last, but not least, Stephanie Pillaro and family.
