Obituary for Effie Broussard Abshire
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Leroy, LA for Effie Rose Broussard Abshire, 79, who died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 in Lafayette.
Fr. Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the funeral Mass and the burial will follow in the Abshire Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m.
Mrs. Abshire was born September 1, 1943 in Crowley, LA to Aristile and Marguerite Guidry. Effie attended Crowley High School. She then began working as a clerk at Gremillion’s Pharmacy. She later served as a school bus driver for the Vermilion Parish School Board until her retirement.
Effie’s most important and rewarding jobs were wife, mother, and grandmother. She was devoted to her immediate and extended families.
Through their children’s participation in 4H, Effie and Douglas became actively involved. Special thanks to Cornerstone at the Ranch for providing community and care in her later life, also to Calcutta House, Hospice of Acadiana for offering dignity of life in her passing to the Lord.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Mary Abshire of North Carolina and Matthew Abshire of St. Amant, LA; sister Salomie Dugat of Crowley and many loving nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Abshire, Gerald “Tee” Abshire, Carlton Abshire, Bill Beasley, Russell “Rusty” Petry and Kirk Hoffpauir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Abshire; son, Wayne Abshire; daughter, Aline Hoffpauir; her parents and a sister, Euphemie “Faye” Petry.
