Obituary for John Patrick Manning

John Patrick Manning, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away at home surrounded by his family on October 27, 2022 after a long, courageous battle with Gastric Cancer. He will be terribly missed by all who knew him.  
John was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it He loved his God, family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of nearly 45 years Nina, two daughters, Amanda Manning of New Orleans and Laura Manning of Lafayette, and two grandchildren, Christian and Gabriella of Lafayette. Surviving relatives also include one brother T. Michael Manning (Connie) of Harvey, three sisters-in-law Judy Edwards (Larry) of Keyesport, IL, Janet Kepford (Charlie) of Sioux Falls, SD and Nancy Chew (David) of Richmond, IN., as well as ten nieces and nephews, and cousins Jerri West, Whitney Buras, and Sally Ann Buras.
John was preceded in death by his parents Hidde S. Manning, Jr and Ella Maud Durkes Manning of New Orleans and one grandson Donoven Benjamin Patrick Sharp of New Orleans.
He retired as an Operator for the New Orleans Fire Department after 35 years and served many years on NOFFCU on the Board of Directors. 
 He is a member of Covenant United Methodist Church of Lafayette and previously a member of Woodland Presbyterian of New Orleans.
Friends, family and employees of New Orleans Fire Department, New Orleans Fireman’s FCU, Amelia Manor, Jo Ellen Smith Convalescent, Courtyard, Wynhoven, Dick’s Sporting Goods, River Oaks Retirement Manor, and Red Knights Motorcycle Club are invited to memorial services on Thursday November 3, 2022 at 2 PM in the sanctuary of Covenant United Methodist Church, 300 East Martial Avenue, Lafayette, LA 70508 and on Saturday November 5, 2022 at 1 PM at Woodland Presbyterian, 5824 Berkley Drive, New Orleans, LA 70131.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Covenant United Methodist Church or Woodland Presbyterian Church in his memory are appreciated.
