James L. David passed away on Sunday, February 26th, 2023 at 82 years of age. Jim was born in Church Point in 1940 to Kermit and Aline David. As a young man, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and later in life was a local Boy Scout Leader. After serving in the United States Army Jim attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette where he received a bachelor’s degree in business. In Colorado he would meet Elizabeth (Betty) Fleck of Pennsylvania, whom he married in 1968. The two would return to Church Point to run the family business, David’s of Church Point, In., a clothing store, and later added a Radio Shack franchise. Jim and Betty raised four children: Elisa, William (Bill), Jules (Jed), and Jaimie, in the Church Point area. Between running the family business and raising four children, Jim still found time to be an active member of the Church Point Chamber of Commerce, serve as a Eucharistic minister, host the annual Courir de Mardi Gras for more than twenty five years, obtain a private pilot’s license and travel throughout three continents. Jim will always be known for the support he provided to his community, friends and family. We love you always – brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and older brother, David of Abilene, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Elisa and husband Thawat Kwanjai, of San Antonio, Texas; son Bill of Church Point; son Jed, wife Ashley and their two sons, Walker and Whitaker of Atlanta Georgia; and daughter Jaimie and husband Richard Lavergne, and their two daughters, Marie and Brooklyn of Church Point; his brother Doug David, of Virginia; sister Mary Oriol of Lacombe and brother Paul David of Lafayette.
