Obituary for Morris Benoit

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Morris Benoit, 81, who passed away at his home in Church Point on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 12:15 P.M.

Fr. Brian Harrington, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point will be officiating for the service. Burial will be held in Verrette Cemetery in Swords.

The family has requested visitation to be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8:00 A.M. until time of services.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Anne and Glenn Carriere, (his caretaker) Theresa Benoit, and Monica Benoit all of Church Point; three brothers, Fred Benoit and companion, Betty of Opelousas, Marvin and wife, Melba Benoit of Leonville, Paul and wife, Barbara Benoit of Maurice; two sisters, Patricia and husband, Herman “Brud” Meche of Leonville, Veronica and husband, Jerry McCartney, San Antonio; one brother-in-law, Don and wife, Joan Begnaud; two sisters-in-law, Barbra Bourque and Naomi Bowden; five grandchildren, Joe and wife, Roxanne, Mary and husband, Rick Beslin, Ethan, Leslie and companion, Kyle, and Seth; three Godchildren, Martin Begnaud, Tony Moreau, and Michael Benoit; eight great-grandchildren; and four grand-dogs.

Mr. Benoit was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Begnaud Benoit; one daughter, Catherine Benoit; one grandchild, Chloe Michael Carriere; one great-grandchild, Baylee Beslin; his parents, Elie and Avia Brown Benoit; one brother, Charles Benoit; two sisters, Martha Galland, and (Godchild) Virginia and husband, Horace McBride; four sisters-in-law, Ghislaine Benoit, Mary, Doris, and Nell Begnaud; two brothers-in-law, Claude, and Bennett Begnaud; one niece, Myra Galland; one great nephew, Kirby Benoit; one Godchild, Michael Bertrand.

Mr. Benoit played football for Opelousas High School as #70. He also participated in numerous sports during his high school years. After High School he played the lead guitar, his cousin, Hebert “Jr.” Ardoin played rhythm guitar, and B played the fiddle, in the B Trahan and Lawtell Jolly Boys Band. Mr. Benoit served in the United States Army in the Airborne Assault Division during the Vietnam Era.  He retired from DOTD after 26 years and Dominque and Szabo and Associates for 18 years of service. Mr. Morris always said when asked this question: What is one thing you always wanted to do, but, never did? “Nothing, I did what I set out to do.”

Pallbearers for the service will be Glenn, Joe, Ethan Carriere, Rick Beslin, Michael, Marcus, and Brock Benoit. Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Fred, Marvin, and Paul Benoit, Don, and Martin Begnaud, Tony Moreau, and all of his nephews.
