Rayne—A Mass of Christian Burial for Vernice Cormier Owens, 82, of Rayne will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne. Father Allen Breaux will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery #2, Rayne.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M., on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M., and on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. in Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 6:30 P.M. in the funeral home.

Mrs. Owens passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 9:20 A.M. in a Lafayette hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of the Rayne/Mire area, Mrs. Owens was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, and was known to care for the elderly and for anyone who was in need. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianna O. Johnson and husband, Jason of Rayne; son, Danny Lee Breaux of Rayne; step-son, Carroll Owens and wife, Pearl of Rayne; sisters, Joyce Cormier Guidry of Vidor, TX, and Jeanette Cormier Alleman and husband, Nelson of Scott; brothers, Curtiss Cormier and wife, Hilda of Vidor, TX, and Austin Cormier and wife, Jan of Rayne; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mrs. Owens in death were her husband, Wilbert Owens; daughter, Deborah Faye Breaux; brother, Aubrey Cormier; and parents, Louis and Ada Quibodeaux Cormier.
