A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Estherwood, LA for Red Johnson Myers “The Whistler”, 95, who died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his residence in Egan, LA.
Fr. Randall Moreau, Pastor of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church will celebrate the Mass and the burial will follow in the Estherwood Cemetery. Visitation may be observed on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
Johnson was born January 10, 1926 in Estherwood, LA to the late Teola and Amelia Istre Myers. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII. He worked most of his life in the oil field. He enjoyed his garden and the outdoors. One of his greatest pleasure Cajun Music. He loved playing his accordion and harmonica at home with friends and family and at local jam sessions. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle to many.
He is survived by his son Timothy Myers and his wife Kathleen of Indiana; 2 grandsons, Nicholas Myers and his wife Becky of Maryland and Zachary Myers of Cedar Lake, IN.; 3 stepchildren, Patricia Picard and her husband Willie of New Iberia, Darlene Lancon of New Iberia and Douglas MaGee and his wife Shelly of Iota; 2 brothers, Daniel “Buddy” Myers and his wife Frances of Jennings and Robert Lee Myers of Egan; sister, Vivian Taylor of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen Bodin Myers; daughter, Susan Landry; son, Troy Myers; grandson, Shannon Landry; brother, Rufus Myers; 3 sisters, Judy Redding, Beatrice Myers and Margaret Cormier and 2 step children, Sylvia Delahoussaye and Frances Miller.
